Tektronix 7603 Oscilloscope with Plug-ins

This is a Tektronix 7603R (rack mount) oscilloscope. Tektronix manufactured 7000 series oscilloscopes for more than 20 years ending in 1992, which is an amazing production run for any piece of test gear. The long production run was probably due to versatility. The 7603R can be used for a wide variety of tasks, from routine troubleshooting to serious lab applications. It's easy to use and accepts three 7000 Series plug-ins. Plug-ins available from many source include several amplifier types, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, and curve tracers. A complete electronic laboratory can be assembled using a 7000 with the desired plug-ins. Check out http://www.caip.rutgers.edu/~kahrs/testeq/7000.html for a great list of plugins and descriptions.

I bought this one with the plan to drop a 7L13 spectrum analyzer in it, but eneded up buying a 7613 with a 7L13 in it, so I don't need this one.

These oscilloscopes were once fairly common, but are now getting rare. It may soon be hard to find an American made metal frame analog oscilloscope of this quality.

All functions appear to work properly. But, I have not checked it against all specifications and can not guarantee calibration. The chassis has a few minor scratches, but all the control knobs are functional and the interior is extremely clean (see photos).

Options for this oscilloscope include options 4 (50 to 400 Hz line frequency) and 5 (high brightness CRT). Plug-ins included with the oscilloscope are a 7A18 Dual Trace Amplifier, a 7A13 Differential Amplifier with digital readout, and a 7B71 Time Base. A power cord is also included. Unfortunately, no probes or manual come with the oscilloscope but, plug-ins, probes, and manuals can be readily obtained from many used test equipment dealers.

A few of the 7603 performance characteristics are as follows:

  • Bandwidth - 100 MHz
  • Rise time - 3.5 ns
  • Main time base - lowest 5 ns/div
  • Display Type - CRT Monochrome
  • Display Size - 13 cm
  • Dimensions 61.0 cm X 22.1 cm X 29.0 cm (L X W X H)
  • Weight 30 lb (13.6 kg)

As shown in the photo the oscillosocpe has traces displayed from multiple inputs supplied by a Wavetek 115 Function Generator (NOT INCLUDED). The second photo shows a close up of the traces. The third photo shows the clean interior.
